SURFACE PREPARATION:
Surface preparation is the most important part of a Prestige project. Cleanliness and surface condition will determine success and long-term durability of Prestige finish. It is important that the surface offers a good bond. Some surfaces could need to be sanded to become porous or rough, medium or coarser sandpaper can be used. For a long-term durability, surface to be covered must be absolutely clean, dry, free from humidity, loose flaking and efflorescence. It must be free from any residues such as dust, dirt, oil, paint, glue, surface sealer or any other foreign materials which could affect bonding. Do an ASTM test to make sure there's no more humidity or effoloresence in the substracte before receiving coating.

Surface cleaning:
Clean with a universal degreaser and use a power washer unit with at least 2400 psi pressure. Clean the surface with slow sweeping movements from left to right holding the tip 7 cm from the surface. A significant difference in the cleanliness of area should be observed using this method.

Concrete, new cement and major repairs:
Allow a minimum of 28 days curing and proceed with surface cleaning instruction, and be sure that there's no inflorescences.

For repairs concrete and minor cracks and imperfections :
We suggest using Eagle Black products. When repairs are done, allow 48 hours cure or more according to weather conditions and proceed to the ASTM test to make sure that the substrate has no humidity or inflorescenre.

How to remove glue:

Glue is a frequent problem. Glue for carpets, tiles, vinyls, etc. must be removed to assure adequate bonding. Remove glue with a scraper and after, use any products sold in hardware stores to eliminate glue residues. Then proceed with surface cleaning instruction.

How to remove paint:

Paint as glue must be removed. For painted surfaces, scuff the surface using a medium to coarse grit sandpaper to give more bonding to the surface. Remove and clean correctly to keep the surface free of any dust or debris. If a paint stripper agent is used, scrub the surface and rinse abundantly with water to assure that any residues are cleaned off. Then proceed with surface cleaning instruction.

Wood:
Prestige adheres very well to plywood, but for interior uses only. The fact is humidity soaks in plywood, water expends wood and affect its glue causing “system/substrate” failure. The surface must be free of any dust, debris or any other foreign material which could affect bonding. Proceed with surface cleaning instruction.
For indoor surfaces, use a tongue and groove Select plywood or better with at least 5/8” thickness. Be sure that the panel is solidly fastened to joists, using galvanized screws to eliminate any movement of the substrate.
For other surfaces such as Styrofoam, fiberglass, fibro cement, treated wood, etc., check with the manufacturer for the required method of preparation.
Now the surface is dry, clean and without substrate humidity (follow the A.S.T.M. standard to make sure that there is no humidity in the substrate).

APPLICATION OF PRESTIGE FINISH

CAUTION
IT IS NECESSARY TO ADD THE CATALYST TO THE PRESTIGE BEFORE ITS APPLICATION; OTHERWISE NO PERFORMANCE WILL BE OBTAINED. ONCE CATALYZED, THE MIXTURE HAS 6 HOURS POT LIFE, AFTER THAT IT MUST BE DISCARDED. THIS IS WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO MIX ONLY THE NECESSARY QUANTITY OF PRESTIGE PER COATINGS TO REDUCE MATERIAL LOSS.

Now that the surface is well prepared, you are now ready to apply the Prestige finish.

  1. Add catalyst to Prestige and stir well. (Pot life of 6 hours).
  2. Apply in thin coats. Two thin coats are recommended for better results. A slight water spray could be necessary to ease the application.
  3. Setting time is approximately 3 to 4 hours per coat of about 1/32 to 1/64’’ thick. It can vary according to thickness of the application, weather condition, ambient temperature and relative humidity. You can use an economic grout applicator, a metallic trowel, a window squeegee or a stucco gun. Drying time before installing a sealer is 8 hours.
  4. After application of Prestige, surfaces must be protected for at least 24 hours from rain, condensation and frost until drying is completed.
Recommandations:
  1. Tools can be kept moistened at all times to ease the application.
  2. Do not let the product dry on tools or hands; clean with soap and water.
  3. No matter which tool is used, it is strongly recommended to apply Prestige always in the same direction, avoiding making circles especially with a trowel. For better results, apply the second coat in the opposite direction. On vertical surfaces, work in upward direction. In some cases, a slight water spray could be necessary to ease the application.
  4. Do not proceed under midday sun or if rain or showers are forecast or if there is a possibility of dew before drying tine is complite.

Drying Time:
The minimum drying time between each coat is about 6 hours or more according to weather conditions, ambient temperature and relative humidity. Allow 3 to 7 days for heavy foot traffic or intensive use (ex: chair, table, etc.).

Attention: When talking about dry surfaces, it means also that sub-surface is dry and exempt of humidity (see the A.S.T.M. standard) to allow a good bonding onto the substrate. The final result of any exterior application is very sensitive to atmospheric conditions.

CR 2200 PROTECT SEALER APPLICATION (Optional)

Once Prestige CR 2100 is fully dry, you can put a supplementary protection by using Protect sealer, after minimum 8 hours. This product has been formulated expressly to ease cleaning.

  1. Be sure that the surface is completely dry, clean and exempt of humidity. If the surface is tacky, the Prestige could need more time to dry; to be safe, let it cure for an additional day.
  2. Do not spread the sealer under a midday sun. Wait until the surface temperature has cooled down.
  3. For application of Protect CR2200, use a roller or a paintbrush. You can apply several coats. It is recommended to apply 2 coats.

Care and cleaning guidelines:

Prestige will be durable and will require very little care. However, to assure a longer life to Prestige, follow these guidelines:For most surfaces, a mild soap is usually adequate. For tougher spots and oily marks, use a universal degreaser and water. For spots of grease stains, try a little varsol (mineral spirits) on linen or a soft brush and rub. For rust stains, you can use “CLR” product. Do not use a wire brush or water spraying equipment with more than 1800 psi pressure to clean Prestige. You can put once a year a new coat of Protect CR2200 on a dry, clean and humidity free surface. That will help to keep the surface in good condition and easy to clean.

Snow and ice removal:
To shovel snow, use a plastic shovel. To remove ice from walking areas, use salt or any substitute.
