| Description |
| EAGLE BOND is an high quality thin-set mortar that only needs water for installation of all types of natural stones and tiles on concrete surfaces. This thin-set is formulated for the installation of ceramic tiles, vitrified or not, inside either on horizontal or vertical surfaces. It has been conceived for residential and light commercial applications. Mixed with its polymer EAGLE BOND PLUS, it will give the highest results in the industry for interior or exterior installations of natural stone, glass, porcelain and ceramic tiles, etc. EAGLE BOND gives an excellent adhesion on more demanding jobs. Take note that rigorous attention must be taken to execute surface preparation conform to trade practices and Eagle Black’s surface preparation guidelines. |
| Surface Preparation |
All surfaces to be covered shall be structurally sound, clean and free from traces of dust, oil, grease, wax, paint, curing agent, coatings and loose particles. They must also be exempt from any trace or presence of acids, concentrated alkalis, chemical cleaning agent or any other material that can reduce adhesion. Substrates like particleboard, chipboard, Lauan, press wood or Masonite are not appropriate for thin-set mortar products. When Eagle Bond is mixed with Eagle Bond Plus, the only recommended wood substrate for residential floors is exterior grade plywood installed in an interior dry area. All concrete substrates shall be completely cured and at least 28 days old, free from hydrostatic conditions and/or extreme humidity problems. They must be roughened to remove completely all traces of paint, coating, loosely bonded toppings, loose particles and construction debris. Ambient, surface and product temperature must be superior to 10ºC (50ºF) and lower than 35ºC (95ºF) before the installation and for the first 24 hours. |
| Mixing |
In a clean container, pour exactly 330 ml of Eagle Bond Plus (or 260 ml of fresh and clean water) per kilogram of Eagle Bond by adding gradually the powder while mixing with a low-speed drill and mixer. Blend for 1 to 2 minutes scraping recipient walls and paddle to obtain a homogeneous trowelable consistency. Let mortar sit for 10 minutes, than remix without adding any more water or powder. Apply immediately. Occasionally remix while using it, with no water addition. Clean working tools and hands with water while product is still fresh. |
| Application |
Spread and scratch mortar on surface to be covered with flat edge of trowel. Quickly add mortar and using notch side of the trowel, spread mortar uniformly, taking care to trace ridge lines in the same straight line direction. Spread enough mortar so that the surface can be covered in less than about 15 minutes. If ridges have slightly dried and there is skin formation at the surface, there will be no adherence, mortar will have to be removed and a fresh coat applied. Press tiles firmly with a back and forth motion across ridges to obtain full mortar transfer at the back of tiles. Tiles must be embedded at 1/3 of their thickness in mortar. Never wet tiles prior to their application, if so, it must be advised by tile manufacturer. |
| Curing |
Protect surfaces for 48 hours. Curing time may vary according to temperature and humidity level. Make sure application is dry prior to allow light traffic for grouting. |
